Marley Wynn is the musical alter ego of omnipresent WA musical identity Adrian Hoffmann. Seemingly falling from the stars like a fully formed swashbuckling troubadour, Hoffmann aka Marley Wynn has actually served a lengthy rock n’ roll apprenticeship. From fronting acclaimed Perth alt-rockers The Morning Night, singing and playing guitar for The Triffids, to playing guitar and bass for Steve Kilbey of The Church and Davey Lane of You Am I, Marley Wynn’s musical credentials are exemplary.
As frontman for The Morning Night he received two four-star reviews from The Australian for albums Otis and Amberola, while clocking up the frequent flyer points on a myriad of East Coast tours and playing virtually every live music venue in the West.
With the release of his debut solo album, 25 Bruised Boysenberry Ave., Wynn reconvened with long time producer, Ricky Maymi of the Brian Jonestown Massacre behind the studio console. The album is preceded by first single, ‘Mercury Zoo’, a confident track with cascading chords reminiscent of The Byrds, David Bowie’s ‘Hunky Dory’ era and The Go-Betweens.
With 25 Bruised Boysenberry Ave., Marley Wynn takes a giant leap forward musically, stirring in a glam rock flavour to his trademark chiming guitars and yearning vocals. Backed by a band of stellar Perth musicians, Marley Wynn’s solo career will be one to watch with great fervour.

He’s racked up the frequent flyer points on myriad national tours fronting ‘The Morning Night’, joined The Triffids on stage in Europe, and sessioned for Steve Kilbey (The Church) and Davey Lane (You Am I), but now Fremantle’s Marley Wynn finds himself in entirely different territory – outback Australia, in the back of a Tarago, as he dedicates the back half of 2017 to traversing our sunburnt land and playing in as many country pubs as will have him.
For a man in his mid-twenties, Wynn’s musical resume is both impeccable and thoroughly cosmopolitan to this point; two albums with the aforementioned psychedelic rockers, both produced by Ricky Maymi (of the Brian Jonestown Massacre) – and both receiving four-star reviews from The Australian – and a recently released, expansive, genre-hopping debut solo album, pointing to an ambition and restlessness of spirit that’s drawn him to the open road.
Make no mistake – he’s a prolific writer in the tradition of the great Australian jangle-pop songbook (The Triffids, Go-Betweens, Paul Kelly), and the sort of bloke who can satisfy any yelled request for a cover song emanating from the back of the pub – and it’s this encyclopaedic pop knowledge, and a bit of a larrikin streak, that he hopes will get him through.
New Album ‘25 Bruised Boysenberry Avenue’ officially released March 2017 www.marleywynn1.bandcamp.com
