Although best known for his Folk/Punk/ Rock'n'Roll work with Ill Starred Captain, Scott Bassham has also been making a name for himself as a folk/ambient composer and performer outside the realms of loud Rock'n'Roll.
As a screen and television composer, Scott’s work has been garnering some positive international attention, with his recent scoring of the Canadian travel series "Think Global Act Local", and he has written music for other projects, including podcasts and commercials in Canada through this work. Scott is keen to work more in this realm, and has been busy developing his recording setup in order to pursue these cinematic endeavours. Also, veering away from the straight rock performances that he is known for, Scott has been working more and more in developing a live performance style that is suited more towards the vibrant world of Food and Wine in the Margaret River area he now calls home. Recently, Scott has been playing some very interesting live shows for Wineries and restaurants that go well beyond the usual "background Muzak" style of performance. “I’ve been lucky to collaborate with some of the best Wineries and Restaurants in Australia, to create music that is both creative and fluid for degustation nights, and Art exhibitions. These events require much more creativity than just sitting in the corner, playing background tunes, and I've really loved the challenge of performing compositions that really work with certain events. I think that music, in these circumstances, should be as much a part of the experience as the food and wine, and have really enjoyed the creative possibilities of working with other people to present a totally engrossing and enriching experience." This approach has seen Scott's music develop a fantastic reputation for being an integral part of this burgeoning scene, and he is becoming a regular and valued performer at many high end wineries, restaurants and galleries around Western Australia, including the Studio Bistro in Yallingup, and the famous Whalers Restaurant in Exmouth among many others. |

"Travel Global Think Local" is an online travel series created by Canadian film-maker Greg Snell. (Link to Gregs work here somehow?). The focus of the series is ethical tourism around the world and features music by Scott Bassham in several episodes. "I first became aware of Greg when he contacted Seawitch Music to ask if he could use an ill-Starred Captain song, 'Four Feet Away' as the soundtrack to a promotional clip for the South Australian Tourism Commission (link to that). He did a great job and so we kept in contact.
When I started to experiment with screen composition, I contacted him, and asked if he had any projects coming up. He immediately booked me to work on several episodes of 'TGTL', and asked me to compose over 50 pieces of music! Talk about being dumped in the deep end!" The series became the opening into a whole new world, and since completing the music for it, Scott has continued to supply music to some of Greg Snell's film work, and the two have plans to join forces and co-release work in the future.
